Paul Graham & 2009
Este año va a ser el año de Paul Graham. Su arriesgado trabajo fotográfico está alcanzando el reconocimiento que merece gracias a distintas exposiciones, premios y ediciones de libros.
En el Folkwan Museum de Essen (Alemania) hay una exposición que revisa su obra desde 1981 al 2006. Esta exposición viajará a Deichtorhallenr en Hamburgo y a la Whitechapel de Londres. También se editará un libro que repasará su trayectoria.
El próximo miércoles también se inaugura una exposición en el MOMA de Nueva York con su trabajo (COMPLETO) A Shimmer of Possibility.
Paul Graham también ha sido nominado al importante premio Deutsche Borse Photography Prize y expondrá en la Photographers Gallery de Londres desde el 20 de febrero con los otros nominados: Taryn Simon, Emily Jacir y Tod Papageorge.
La editorial Steidl va a sacar otra edición de su/s libro/s A Shimmer of Possibility. En esta edición se reunirán los 12 libros en un solo volumen con portada blanda.
En fin, que Paul Graham no para este año y yo me alegro muchísimo!!
This is going to be Paul Graham’s year. His risky photographic work is getting the recognition it deserves thanks to some exhibitions, prizes and book editions.
At the Folkwan Museum de Essen (Germany) there is an exhibition that looks through his work since 1981 to 2006. This exhibition will travel to Deichtorhallenr in Hamburg and to the Whitechapel in Londres. A book that will review his trayectory will be published too.
Next Wednesday a show will open at MOMA in Nueva York with his project (entire) A Shimmer of Possibility.

Zoe Leonard.- ANALOGUE
Zoe Leonard está exponiendo su trabajo en el Museo Reina Sofía de Madrid hasta el 16 de febrero.
El pasado lunes visité esta exposición y fue una grandísima sorpresa. Leonard en su proyecto Analogue, 1998-2007, comenzó documentando el deterioro y el cierre de los comercios del Lower East Side de Nueva York. Luego se fijo en los grandes fardos de ropas usadas que se envían al Tercer Mundo. Posteriormente Leonard viajó a Uganda, Polonia, México DF, Cuba y Jerusalén y estudió las interconexiones culturales y económicas de una economía global, pero también los símbolos propios como son los carteles pintados a mano. este trabajo es complejo y rico, está compuesto por más de 10.000 imágenes y aquí se muestran unas 400 organizadas según un criterio conceptual.
Zoe Leonard dice en esta entrevista: “Para mí la fotografía es intrínseca a la observación. Es estar en el presente y tener una inequívoca perspectiva sobre él, sobre el mundo que me rodea. No se trata tanto de crear, o de mi imaginación – como podría serlo el dibujo. Es más una cuestión de respuestas. Elegir observar determinados objetos o situaciones. No es solo lo qué estoy mirando sino también cómo lo miro. La fotografía baraja una noción de absoluta verdad. Cuando la gente mira una fotografía, la cree. Creemos que representa la realidad, creemos que un retrato puede mostrar el verdadero carácter de alguien. Si mira una foto creerá que realmente sucedió de esa manera. Las fotos son “testimonios”. Mis fotografías se arrastran a lo largo de ese borde. Documento el mundo, pero desde mi propio e influenciado punto de vista. Deseo crear al espectador dentro del proceso de observación, y que juntos logremos ver estas cosas. Deseo mostrarle lo que veo. Tomo fotos de lo que me mueve. A veces esto es la belleza – cascadas, el océano. Cosas que me llenan de sobrecogimiento. A veces son evidencias de nuestra cultura. Cosas que me asustan, me disgustan, o me enojan. Lo frustrante de todo esto es que si estoy sintiendo algo o deseo expresar ciertos pensamientos, debo encontrar algo realmente fuera de mí que me lo represente visualmente, algo en el mundo a qué sacarle fotos.”

Zoe Leonard is showing her work at Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid till 16th. February.
Last Monsay I visited this exhibition and it was a huge surprise. Leonard, in her project Analogue, 1998-2007, started documenting the deterioration and closure of the stores of New York Lower East Side. Later she payd attention to the huge bundles of clothes that are sent to the Third World. Next Leonard travelled to Uganda, Poland, Mexico City, Cuba and Jerusalem and she investigated the cultural and economic interconecctions of a global economy, but also their own symbols as handpainted signage. This worl is complex and rich, it consists in more than 10.000 images and here aproximately 400 are shown arranged conceptually.
Zoe Leonard says in an interview: “For me photography is intrinsically about observation. It’s about being present in and having a certain perspective on, the world around me. It’s not so much about creating, or my imagination – as drawing, for instance, may be. It’s more about responding. Choosing to look at certain objects or situations. It’s not just what I’m looking at but how I look. Photographs play with the idea of absolute truth. When people look at a photograph, they believe it. We believe that it exposes reality. That a portrait can show someone’s true character. If you see a picture of something, you believe it really happened that way. Pictures are proof. My photographs crawl along that edge. I document the world, but from my own biased point of view. I want to draw the viewer into the process of looking so we can look at these things together. I want to show you what I see. I take pictures of what moves me. Sometimes it’s beauty – the waterfalls, the ocean. Things that fill me with awe. Sometimes it’s gathering evidence, spying on our culture. Things that scare me or disgust me or make me angry. The one part that’s frustrating is if I’m feeling a certain way or want to express certain thoughts, I have to actually find something out in the world that visually conveys that to me, something to take pictures of.”
Analogue was shown first at Documenta 2007.
Eric Tabuchi
El trabajo del fotógrafo francés Eric Tabuchi se puede ver hasta el 5 de Diciembre en la galería y editorial parisina Florence Loewy.
Esta serie sobre camiones es muy divertida. !Tabuchi se ha convertido en un experto en fotografiar desde un coche!. En su myspace hay otra serie sobre gasolineras abandonadas. La manera de distribuir su trabajo y también sus temas nos recuerdan al artista norteaméricano Edward Ruscha.
Eric Tabuchi. Alphabet Truck
The work of the French photographer Eric Tabuchi can be seen till 5th. December in the Paris gallery and publisher Florence Loewy.
This series about trucks is very funny. Tabuchi has become an expert in photographing froma car! In his myspace there is another series of abandoned petrol stations. The way of distributing his work and also his subjects reminds us to the work of the North American artist Edward Ruscha.
Paris Photo
La semana pasada acudí a la feria de fotografía Paris Photo. Esta feria coincide con la celebracion del Mois de la Photo en la capital francesa.
En Paris Photo pude ver el trabajo de muchos fotógrafos actuales que me interesan que no había visto en directo. Recuerdo de memoria que ví fotos de Todd Hido, Rinko Kawauchi, Asako Narahashi, Yto Barrada… Entre los fotógrafos que no conocía destaco el trabajo de Rob Hornstra, Eric Tabuchi, Naruki Oshima. Como es habitual estas elecciones están guiadas por mis intereses personales.
También tuve la oportunidad de ver obras de los inicios de la fotografía de autores como William Fox Talbot. Entre los stands de la feria había algunos de editoriales de foto-libros o de librerías especializadas en foto-libros. Otra sección estaba dedicada a las revistas sobre fotografía.
El país invitado en esta 12 edición de la feria era Japón. En la entrada de la feria había 5 stands de editoriales japonesas y también en la feria uno de los stands era de la galería y editorial Foil. Según los datos de la organización en los stands de las galerías se mostraba el trabajo de más de 130 fotógrafos japoneses.
